Phil has been playing since the age of 15 starting with guitar, bass guitar then banjo and more recently dobro.  From the mid seventies till about 1986 he played with folk/country trio Real McCoy who were popular in the Dunbartonshire area.. Members included Tommy Mooney and Bobby Dobson ,  In 1994 Phil joined The Moonshiners to play Bluegrass which is his first love in music. Over the years he has turned up with various artist both on stage and in the studio including Martin Stephenson, Sean McGhee, She-Haw, Radio Sweethearts, John Herald Band and John Miller. Phil's day job is running Sakerski's Bodyshop in Alexandria along with his son Philip jnr and wife Janie.

 

"Singing in the Lane" featuring 18 excellent tracks, including some well known instrumental numbers, a couple of brilliant tunes written by Phil, and 4 songs written by Ian - including his Scottish bluegrass song "Wee Hielan' But'n'Ben".

The Moonshiners are no spring chickens and maybe that’s a good thing. Here they show that there’s been much more than Monroe, Flatt or Scruggs.. The delivery is earnest, the tone unfussy and the net effect is just about as heart-warming as could be...
